My goal with this series of articles is to discuss a wide range of subjects that interest me most who have to get off the grid, growing organic food for my use and that of my animals and more sustainable choices throughout.
To this end, I will begin by discussing the old yet emerging field of aquaponics, which is the combination of aquaculture (fish and invertebrates marine growth) and hydroponics (growing vegetables with no ground) .Aquaponie is, indeed, the marriage of aquaculture and Hydroponics in a closed loop system linked.
Traditional aquaculture, much expenditure comes to buy food for the fish, chemicals to treat water and often complex filtration systems and more requise.Dans traditional hydroponics, water pumps soluble plant food, chemicals and micronutrients can be extremely expensive, and complex pumping systems are employed. There are also complex and expensive lighting, tanks and/or beds to be taken into account in both systems grow.
Aquaponics, two efforts are combined, with the result that the fish and plants are best santés and grow faster and more robust.A pump system serves two purposes, plants provide filtration necessary to keep the water clean for fish and fish waste provides nutrients for subdivided into a form that plants can use nitrifying bacteria.Chemicals are generally not required, and since aquaponics uses a closed loop system, can be made 100% organic with relative ease.
Fortunately, I am in the right place at the right time, as a magnificent series systems aquaponics is retained for educational purposes by morning star fishermen, Inc. in San Antonio, Florida, approximately one hour north of my home.It is a nonprofit, education to those who would grow their own organic fish and vegetables at home or in the trade, they have systems demonstration from the apartment and the only size up to and including a trading system family aquaponics with several tanks concrètes.Le couple who started the Organization, Hans and Sigrid Geissler, originally started in Largo, Florida, literally down the street from where I vis.Ils are passed from the whole on a parcel of ten acres in San Antonio, Florida, close to the city of Dade, operation to sleep in a series of large greenhouses - tropical fish farm the perfect place to stay démonstration.Ils aquaponics systems launched education in Haiti and Jamaica and are ongoing with another in Nicaragua. They bring in villagers and missionaries around the world to teach them how implement their own systems of aquaponics to feed their families and villages.
Fortunately, as an inveterate gardener, I had lots of plants to share with them when they need quickly for a class to come, and they were kind enough to give me a few dozen blue in return for my aide.Bien tilapia fingerlings that they are not too happy with our very cool course, they have grown quickly and let me know whenever I come up their tank it is time to feed them - even if they have been fed five minutes earlier.;Although cultured tilapia in the morning star in most fishermen are hybrid blue tilapia fillets are only tilapia it is legal to possess without a special permit in Florida, and as blue tilapia are also the most cold hardy and among the best tasting, who works for me.

There are a variety of systems sold compact aquaponics today, which will probably not buy me as I am a little one-it-you-same, but that would be an excellent starting point for an individual or small without time family or resources to do research needed to implement their own systems système.Les differ, although most seem to be very well designed and although they are a little expensive, I do not see why they would not for most applications.
Stay tuned to the blog links or banners provided by the manufacturers of some of these systems, so that books and other products related to aquaponics.Je will also be including instructions for my own systems, once we complete our move, and I began to build.
